Alina Kozich (Ukrainian, Alina Kozich – born December 16, 1987 in Ukraine) is an ex- artistic gymnast from Ukraine. She was part of the Ukrainian team at Athens 2004 Summer Olympics.
Kozich didn’t make it to the individual finals of the 2005 World Championships, Melbourne, or 2006 European Championships. However, she won a silver-medal on the floor at 2005 Glasgow Grand Prix. This helped the Ukrainian team finish fifth at the 2006 European Championships. She began to regain her form in late 2006. In the all-around final of the 2006 World Championships in Aarhus in Denmark, Kozich placed 13th. She also assisted the Ukrainian team to finish fifth in their team final.
After the 2008 Olympics, Kozich started competing for Uzbekistan but continued to train at her gym in Ukraine, with a different coach.
She made her second Olympic team in 2008 and competed on all four events in qualifications, trying to make the all-around final. However, after two falls on uneven bars and floor, she finished 45th and did not advance to any finals.
Kozich’s Olympic year began strongly with her career-highlight win in the all around at the 2004 European Championships. She narrowly beat Daniela Sofronie from Romania. This was her first win in the title, which she took from Lilia Podkopayeva of 1996. She also joined an older list that included Tatiana Gutsu (now Ludmilla tourischeva) and Ludmilla Tourischeva (now 62). The European all-around champion in an Olympic season often goes on to win the Olympic all- around title. This was the case in 1976 and 1992. So expectations were high for Kozich heading into Athens.
